Listening is an important part in language acquisition. Babies listen to what their parents’ conversation and memorize the way to pronounce words: from babble to more complicated words. To learn a second language, listening is also a necessary process. Learning through the media such as news report, broadcast, or video in daily life is an efficient and easy way.

I think it is easy to learn language by listening to something interests me. I can not only acquire some sentences but also enjoy the moment. For example, because I like animals, I often search some English videos of the observation or study about wildlife because there is much more novel information from the media in a global language. In the beginning, I always pause or replay the videos because I can’t keep up with the pace of speech. Although the situation happens again and again, I never give up the habit because it is actually my interest and I enjoy the process of learning both language and knowledge. As the time passed, I can gradually finish the videos without much pause. In addition to getting used to the normal pace of videos, I learn a lot about how the native English sounds and I can try to imitate.

For another example, I love playing some video games as leisure activity. At the same time, I also follow some youtubers who introduce new games or make reviews for the famous games. Sometimes watching other person playing video games is very funny because the youtubers or streamers often edit and add some interesting efficacy into the videos. Besides, the interaction between the host and the audience is also an appealing reason. The most important thing is that I can easily learn some tone of language in different response of the streamers. Another thing amazes me and satisfy me is that I can know how the English speakers from different countries speak and express. Owing to the boundless internet, I know how the Swedish or the Ukrainian speak English and understand that language is just a tool for communication. I understand that there is no need to be afraid of having some mother tone because there is a great number of people sharing their experience in English through the internet. As they don’t care much about the accent, why should we take it so seriously? This idea helps me consider learning English much a simpler thing.

The two examples above can prove that learning language can be combined with some entertainment. The mixture of two aspects can help people make some progress in learning without much pressure. It can also make the learning process become a daily routine easily and gradually improve the language ability. Overall, I learn not only language but also some knowledge in other fields in this pattern. You can also try to learn your target language little by little with your interests. If you can find your own formula and put it into practice, I believe you will definitely gain much more benefits than you expect at last.
